Chapter 00
Moving to Barcelona

During a trip to Barcelona, following an intense period of completing an important project in Antwerp, Belgium, I visited the Jardines de Mossèn. Sitting there, I found myself imagining what it would be like to live in this city. Whenever I travel, I like to take small moments to reflect, to absorb the sounds, light, and atmosphere of a place. That day, after soaking in the serenity of the gardens, I wandered down to the Pavilion designed by Mies van der Rohe.

Many describe his work as minimalistic, but I see it differently. Take the time to notice the details: the perfect proportions, the alignment of the tiles with the ceiling, the reflections in the water, the intentional choice of materials. Each element is thoughtfully composed, creating a richness far beyond minimalism.

After returning home to my daily routine, I couldn’t shake a lingering thought: “Charlotte, you’re 25. If you don’t move now, you might settle in Belgium and lead an ordinary life.” So, I started to reach out to almost every architecture studio that exists in Barcelona, with my number one on the list: Studio Andrew Trotter.

There are moments in life when everything seems to align—when opportunities unfold, and the people around you genuinely believe in you. I felt deeply grateful and supported during that time, surrounded by encouragement from friends, family, and colleagues. It was the perfect moment to grow, to take a leap, and to embrace the next chapter of my journey.

Working in this international studio in Barcelona, with projects worldwide, completly opened my mind. The use of different materials, and seeing how projects are managed, working with people from various cultures and backgrounds, in different languages. Being able to travel for work and absorbing like a sponge.

A few years after settling in Barcelona, a new feeling began to emerge. I started receiving requests to review plans, images, and layouts, and share my vision for spaces. Projects began to find their way to me, both in Belgium and Spain. Even though I was still adjusting to my new life, it felt as though a greater force was guiding me toward the next step, urging me to embark on a new adventure into the unknown.

Chapter 01
Vision

I decided to take the leap and embrace whatever opportunities came my way. I wrote down a clear vision, outlining the key elements that make my work unique—a vision that continues to evolve every day.

- Nature: Every architectural change is an intervention. Where there is now a building or concrete, there once was nature. I approach each project with this principle in mind, always building or renovating with the utmost respect for the environment and the natural surroundings.

- Authenticity: I focus on creating bespoke, custom-designed spaces that truly reflect the people who live in or use them.

- Timeless: The use of natural, honest, and durable materials: In a world driven by trends, my designs are both contemporary and timeless. Each space is made to last, prioritizing quality and longevity over fleeting styles.

Chapter 02
Nature

As an interior architect in Barcelona, I find my deepest inspiration in nature. It offers a sanctuary from the city's vibrant chaos, a place to disconnect and rediscover myself. Weekends in La Cerdanya, near the majestic Pyrenees, are my retreat—wandering through serene forests, I am reminded of the contrasts in our world, where simplicity and stillness coexist with life’s relentless pace.

In my projects, I strive for a holistic vision, always seeing the bigger picture. In a world driven by fleeting trends, I focus on creating timeless designs. Natural materials are at the heart of my approach—noble elements like wood, natural stone, and lime plaster. These tactile materials age gracefully, telling a story over time. They endure, lasting beyond the moment, standing strong against the passage of years.

In my work as an interior architect, I draw inspiration from the purity of nature. Natural materials such as wood, stone, and lime plaster are central to my designs. These materials live, breathe, and become even more beautiful with time. They tell a story of growth and aging, adding a timeless quality to any space.

While I hold great respect for traditions and craftsmanship, my goal is not to return to the past. On the contrary, I aim to find a balance between the past, present, and future. I believe that truly timeless design arises from being open to new ideas and evolution, without losing sight of the roots and authenticity of a space.

Nature teaches us that sustainability goes hand in hand with simplicity and authenticity. Just like in nature, my designs revolve around balance—between functionality, aesthetics, and durability. I always strive to avoid waste and give materials a second life, respecting what already exists and what is yet to come.

My approach is one of care and respect: for the materials, the environment, and the people who inhabit the spaces. The result is designs that are not only beautiful but also sustainable, ever-evolving, and in harmony with the passage of time.
